Search Engines and Revenue Sharing

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. We would all be wealthier, healthier and wiser if we knew before we did something, what the outcome would be. Benjamin Franklin is reported to have written ‘in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes’. How true is this?

When Google first set out on it’s journey of world domination two men, Larry Page and Sergey Brin, I would imagine, had no idea that within only a few years, both would be not just millionaires but billionaires. Did you buy into Google at launch? If you did and you kept your stock, you are now very much better off.

This article is not about Google but the direction it takes is to draw attention to the fact that from time to time, one or more people can have a vision that can be life changing. Would’nt it have been so much better if Larry and Sergey had given back the majority of their earnings to the people who have made them so wealthy!

If you have a website or are in any way knowledgeable about the Internet you will know that far and away the vast majority of website visitors come from Search Engines. Surfers do not generally know which website they want to visit when they are trying to find out information about a particular subject. Instead they enter into a search box, words that they feel will produce the information they seek.

Keywords and key phrases are what brings the vast majority of website traffic. Traffic exchanges are minnows compared to search engine traffic. But if your website does not feature highly, usually on the first three or so pages, you will receive very few visitors.

My company, GCCD, are very aware of the importance of search engines, and the pivotal role they play in delivering traffic to websites. We are also aware of the millions of surfers who use the search engines and never receive from them, anything other than the information they are looking for. Often, they do not even get that!

If you are watching commercial television, the upside is that you can watch entertaining programmes. The downside is that your entertainment is interrupted by advertising. But even that is not all bad; every so often an advert will grab your attention and you may purchase as a result. Or you may join something, or whatever. With search engines, in general, you search, you get frustrated by delving through website after website trying to find the information you seek, but in the main, the only entity to profit from your endeavours is the search engine who makes money from allowing websites to advertise.

GCCD, would like to change this and create a system whereby the search engine is in fact a hugely successful Traffic Exchange. Where users get paid for using the search engine. This payment in the form of both information and financial.

Information should be relevant! If you are looking for information on ‘dog handlers in Connecticut’ you should get a selection of websites that have information about the subject you are interested in. Currently, unless you know to put ” before your search and ” after your search, on Google you will get over 600 results, none of which contain any information about ‘dog handlers in Connecticut’. You’ll get loads of information about dog handlers, and information about Connecticut, you’ll get information about dogs, handlers and a couple of sponsors selling security and dog handling courses.

My vision is a search engine that delivers quality content that matches in every respect what the seeker is looking for. A network that enables thousands of webmasters to promote their business to millions of surfers. And a business that rewards it’s users in more ways than just financial.

It’s a big ask but I believe it is possible given the active support of a membership with vision.

Every journey begins with the first step and our first step towards this end is the development of SiteCellar.
